Established in July 1997 and owned by the Queensland Government, Tarong Energy is one of Queensland's most significant power generators with a reputation built on reliability and strong performance in a competitive and dynamic electricity marketplace.
We sell electricity into the National Electricity Market (NEM) pool and provide ancillary services to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) through Tarong and Wivenhoe power stations to ensure the secure and reliable supply of electricity throughout Queensland.
Around 500 people work for us in electrical and mechanical trades, engineering, and a wide variety of professional and support roles at our generating sites and in our Brisbane corporate office.
We own a diverse mix of generating assets - Tarong Power Station, the neighbouring Tarong North Power Station, and Wivenhoe Power Station; and mining assets - the Meandu Mine and Kunioon coal resource, which will fuel the power stations into the future, as well as coal resources in Queensland's Surat Basin.
