Meandu Mine
Tarong Energy took ownership of the Meandu Mine from Rio Tinto Coal Australia (RTCA) on Friday, 1 February 2008.
Thiess Pty Limited, an experienced contract mining operator, was engaged by Tarong Energy to operate the mine. Operations were successfully and seamlessly transferred from RTCA to Thiess under the direction of the TEC Mine Operations Management Team.
Meandu Mine supplies up to seven million tonnes of coal a year to the adjacent Tarong power stations.
The Mine has continued to supply coal to meet the requirements of the power stations and has sufficient coal remaining to ensure a smooth and economically optimal transition to mining from the Kunioon resource.
