            Operations

The overarching objective of mine operations is to ensure the environmentally responsible delivery of coal to meet the quality and quantity requirements of the power stations.

Meandu Mine is fully operational and includes the following:
            • BE 1370 dragline
            • 650 and 350 tonne class excavators
            • 170 tonne payload class rear dump trucks
            • Coal handling and preparation plant of 10 million tonnes per annum capacity and all associated ancillary equipment.
Coal is delivered directly from the coal handling and preparation plant to the power stations by a conveyor belt at a rate which is tuned to the requirements of the power station boilers.

Major elements of the management of operations are:
            • Ensuring that the operation of the mine is consistent with sound safety, environmental and economic practices
            • Planning for mining of the existing Meandu Mine, including exploration, environmental management, ongoing and eventually final rehabilitation.
            Technical input includes:
            • Optimising the transition of operations to Kunioon
            • Design and modifications to existing plant to accommodate the new coal source
            • Construction requirements for Kunioon.
