Tarong North Power Station

Tarong North is a single 445 megawatt advanced cycle coal-fired unit adjacent to the Tarong Power Station.

Completed in July 2003 and initially owned as a 50/50 joint venture, Tarong Energy took full ownership of the station in November 2009.

Tarong North utilises advanced, supercritical boiler technology resulting in it being one of the most efficient and environmentally responsible fossil-fuel power stations in Australia.

The supercritical boiler design it employs increases efficiency and reduces emissions by utilising higher steam pressures and temperatures, which convert more of the heat energy from the coal into electrical energy.

In addition, particulate emissions (ash and dust emitted from the chimney stack) are managed via the use of bag filter technology which enables Tarong North to have lower emissions and assist with meeting best practice environmental standards.

As with Tarong Power Station, Tarong North receives coal from the Meandu Mine. It also interfaces with Tarong Power Station at the supply points for fuel oil, hydrogen, demineralised water, drinking water, sewage, ash disposal, and cooling tower blowdown.

Tarong North is supplied with raw water from the South East Queensland Water Grid.
