            Projects

Some of the projects funded through the ACICC include:

            Annexe Project 2008

This project is run by recognised care providers in the South Burnett and helps provide backup support for school-aged children who, for a variety of reasons, are at risk of being alienated from mainstream education. The project provides nutrition and lifestyle support as well as encouraging re-entry into school-based learning.

            Golden Oldies celebrations

This project, hosted by the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, helps support an annual festival held in recognition of the community’s senior citizens. Older people, particularly any returning to Cherbourg, are made welcome and cultural and family ties are re-affirmed.

Exploring Indigenous culture through painting the Bunya ‘Dreaming Wall’

This small-scale but significant project allows students at Tingoora State School to complement their Indigenous studies with the experience of watching an established local artist paint a playground wall and listen to her interpretations of local stories as she’s doing so. The project not only brightens up the school precinct, it strengthens students’ ties to local Aboriginal culture.

Barambah Wakka Wakka Aboriginal artefacts – promotional program

This simple but useful project has helped a community-level business producing traditional artefacts fund a brochure that will vouch for the authenticity of its products and explain their uses. The project combines basic funding and corporate leverage to produce promotional materials that will help sell locally-made goods.
