            Water

Water is a critical part of the electricity process at Wivenhoe, Tarong and Tarong North Power Stations. Tarong Energy recognises its responsibility in the conservation and management of water and any associated discharges.  We are committed to investigating opportunities to minimise the amount of water required in generating electricity.

Water is important to Tarong Energy because:
            • The power stations at Tarong and Tarong North use water for evaporative cooling, which is critical to the efficiency of the thermal energy conversion process
            • Tarong and Tarong North Power Station release water from their cooling towers into Meandu Creek under an Environmental Authority
            • Wivenhoe Power Station is a pumped storage hydro electricity generator that uses water from Wivenhoe Dam - the focus is on ensuring that there is no detrimental impact on the Dam's water quality as a result of Tarong Energy's activities.

Our water consumption figures at Tarong Power Station are displayed in the chart below.
