            Air

Coal combustion results in the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), sulphur dioxide (SO2) and particulates. Tarong Power Station staff are responsible for ensuring air emission impacts are monitored (see chart below) and improving emissions management practices. Initiatives undertaken to improve our air quality management include:

            • Installing continuous emissions monitoring equipment at Tarong Power Station
            • Trialling low NOx burners at Tarong Power Station
            • Participating in the Greenhouse Challenge Plus Program and reporting to the Australian Greenhouse Office in accordance with the Generator Efficiency Standards.

Compliance with air quality requirements is reported internally and externally to Government. Annual air monitoring information is also reported to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Commonwealth Department of Environment and Water Resources. In addition, we continued to comply with the requirements of the National Pollutant Inventory and information on the report is available through their website.
