            Community Relations

Tarong Energy's generation and mining assets are an important feature in the local communities in which they are located.  We are recognised as a good neighbour in our communities: we seek to understand what's important to community members and respect their needs and concerns.

Our communities are made up of many different groups, including neighbours, councils, media, chambers of commerce, businesses, economic development groups, irrigators and environment groups. These groups often have different - and sometimes conflicting - interests, which we endeavour to consider in the operation of our business.

            Community Report

More than $450,000 invested in community events and projects and 25-years of generation at Tarong and Wivenhoe Power Stations are among the highlights featured in Tarong Energy’s first Community Report.

Produced in response to community research undertaken in 2009 and presented in a calendar year, retrospective style, the report covers our social investment activities as well as the safety and environmental initiatives that we believe are most relevant to the communitites in which we operate.

The Community Report will be widely distributed throughout the South Burnett, Brisbane Valley and Surat Basin regions in 2010.

            Strengthening the South Burnett Economy

Tarong Energy is a significant employer and economic contributor to the South Burnett region, according to an Economic Benefits Study undertaken by the University of Southern Queensland.

The 2008 study found that Tarong Energy accounts for almost one third* of the South Burnett's Gross Regional Product, and injects millions of dollars into the local economy.

The study also identified Tarong Energy as a major employer and job generator, creating and sustaining more than 10% of all jobs in the South Burnett.

For more information about the study and its findings, view the Economic Benefits Study Report.

*Based on a 90% electricity generation capacity.
